About me — and why Klanggeschichten exists

Music has been part of my life since childhood. Here I share what moves me when I listen.

Music has been with me all my life. I listen while driving, cooking or simply getting on with the day — and I enjoy that just as much. In recent years, though, I have increasingly made time to listen to an album in peace. Even records and songs I have known for decades can reveal themselves all over again.

When I take that time, I become curious about what lies behind a record. How did it come about? What did the artist want to say? Why does it sound the way it does? And why does one particular song move me, while another simply passes me by? That process of discovery can become a little addictive. At least, that is how it feels to me.

That is exactly how Klanggeschichten began.

I want to write about music that sparks something in me. About albums, remarkable recordings, artists and the stories behind them. I am not trying to write the most objective record reviews possible or award music a score. What I find special about a record, why it touches me or why I keep returning to it are entirely personal feelings.

When I talk about “records” here, I usually mean albums. Whether you listen on vinyl, CD or a streaming service is entirely up to you. I do not want to start a battle over which format sounds better. Listen in whatever way brings you joy. The focus is on the music, the stories within it and what we discover as we listen.

I also use AI to help with research and writing. It supports me in researching the background, finding connections and organising my thoughts. But AI does not decide which record appears here, what I hear in it or how it affects me. That comes from me.

Listening to music — and what we listen with

HiFi and high-end audio have been part of my passion for music for many years. I am convinced that what we use to listen, and how we listen, make a difference.

For me, high-end does not necessarily mean spending as much money as possible on a system. What fascinates me is how close we can get to a recording. The way a voice suddenly seems to detach itself from a loudspeaker, how a room becomes audible, or how a familiar recording reveals an instrument, a breath or a tiny detail I had never noticed before.

That is why Klanggeschichten will also explore the equipment I use to listen to music. Amplifiers, streamers and other devices, but also building my own loudspeakers, different approaches and my experiences with them. This is not an equipment arms race, nor a claim that there is only one right way. The essential question is always: What does it do for the music?

Ultimately, the system is not an end in itself for me. It should help me immerse myself more deeply in the music.

Why Klanggeschichten at all?

Music is available everywhere today. I think that is wonderful. It can accompany everyday life, lift our spirits or simply play in the background. And sometimes we feel like giving it a little more time and listening more closely. That is the curiosity I want to share here.

Sometimes all it takes is listening to a record from beginning to end. Perhaps knowing a little about how it was made, or the story behind a song, helps too. Suddenly we hear things we had never noticed. We understand the musicians’ choices better, hear instruments differently or discover a meaning in a lyric we have overlooked for decades.

Sometimes that creates an entirely new relationship with a record.

If Klanggeschichten encourages even a few people to make time for an album or discover something new, this blog has fulfilled its purpose.

Something new to discover on Fridays

I look forward to every Friday. That is when I check which albums have been released, listen through the new music and try to find a recommendation for you. Sometimes a record grabs me immediately; sometimes it takes a few listens.

Occasionally an older album appears here too — something I happen upon or rediscover and feel is worth hearing. So it is worth visiting Klanggeschichten on Fridays. Perhaps you will find something that stays with you as well.

And why “.club”?

That was more of a coincidence. When I was looking for a suitable web address, the .club domain happened to be the only available option that really suited Klanggeschichten.

The more I think about it, though, the more I like the idea behind it. Perhaps Klanggeschichten really can bring together people who enjoy discovering music, listening attentively, sharing experiences and pointing one another towards things they might otherwise never have heard.

This is explicitly never intended to become a commercial project. Klanggeschichten is my hobby and should remain that way. No paid record reviews, no business model — simply the pleasure of music, HiFi and the stories that come with them.

And this is not the first hobby I have written about. For many years I have also had my Michi’s Oldtimer blog at www.michisoldtimer.de. Classic cars are another great passion of mine — although they take up considerably more time. Unfortunately, that is why fewer new posts have appeared there lately. Of course, I still drive the cars.

There is simply a little more time for music in everyday life. Perhaps that is precisely why Klanggeschichten has come into being now.

A place for records that have something to say. For the stories behind them. For good listening and the equipment that can help.

And above all, for the joy of discovering music — as part of everyday life, and time and again with time, quiet and open ears.

Klanggeschichten is my hobby. I receive no commission, use no affiliate links and earn nothing from these recommendations.
