Album of the week

George Michael – Patience

Black vinyl record with a cream George Michael – Patience label on a pale stone-coloured background.

Patience, released in 2004, is George Michael’s final studio album, and perhaps his most personal.

Patience was released in 2004.

What I like about this album is how understated it is almost throughout. No grand spectacle, no attempt to prove anything. Here, George Michael seems like someone who is at peace with himself and simply wants to tell a story.

His voice is at the centre of it all: warm and clear. The songs feel like conversations. You get the sense that he is sitting opposite you, giving his thoughts time to unfold.

The cover fits that feeling perfectly too. He is sitting on a white sofa, and it looks as though he is settling down to tell his story while you simply listen.

What stays with me

A voice I miss

Lately, I keep coming across George Michael’s music, and I have to say… I miss him.
